Charlotte Marlene Mays

May 4, 1932 ~ January 18, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Charlotte Marlene Mays of Knox passed away January 19, 2017 at Golden Living Center following an extended stay.   Born May 4, 1932 Charlotte was the daughter of the late Paul and Aleene Ackley of Sigel and Knox.  Charlotte was married 59 years to the late James R. Mays of Knox.  

Charlotte was the valedictorian graduate of Sigel High School class of 1950, and a 1953 graduate of the Oil City School of Nursing.  After graduating, Charlotte worked as a nurse at Oil City Hospital.  She was also employed for many years as the office nurse for Theodore Koenig, MD, and the Koenig Family Practice in Knox. 

Charlotte was a member of the Knox United Methodist Church, the Knox United Methodist Women, the Knox Civic Club, Oil City Alumni Association, PA Nurses Association, and Clarion County Federation of Women’s Clubs. 

Charlotte was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She cared for her husband Jim for decades before moving to Golden Living Center.  She loved being a nurse and even more so a Grandma or Nana.  She enjoyed flowers, and taking pictures.  She was an avid greeting card sender and generously donated too many charities.  She is survived by her two children, Kenton (Cindy) Mays of Knox, and Kimberly (Jeffrey) Harshman of Carolina Beach, NC.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kelsie (Joe) Forman of Newtown Square, PA, Matthew (Megan) Harshman of Tryon, NC, and Cassandra and Amber Mays both of Knox and one great grandchild Abigail Forman of Newton Sauare.  Also surviving is her brother Richard Ackley of Fredonia, NY.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

A memorial service will be held in February at the Knox United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to the Knox United Methodist Church, 628 West Railroad Street, Knox PA, 16232 and the Knox Public Library, 305 North Main St. Knox, PA 16232.
