David D. (Curley) Cessna Sr. , 84 of Knox passed away Thursday morning, January 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.

Born January 11, 1934, in Venus, Curley was the son of Woodrow and Ruby Cessna-Whitman.

On March 23, 1957 Curley married Barbara Peterson who passed away in 2000.

Curley attended Venus School until 8th grade when he went to work for Civilian Conservation Corp. then AJ Sardoni clearing right of ways for Penelec to support his family.  In 1948 he joined the US Army serving in Korea as military police during the Korean War.  After his discharge from the Army in 1952 he went to work for Franklin Steel as a crane operator until his retirement in 1993.

Curley enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping to raise his granddaughters and spending time with his great granddaughter.

Curley is survived by his granddaughters Danielle (Christopher) Perlak of Knox and Ashley (Joshua) Plunkett of Pittsburgh, a grandson Bryce Rhodes of Franklin, a great granddaughter Addie Plunkett and a daughter-in-law Desiree (Blaine Rhodes) Cessna-Rhodes of Franklin.  Also surviving are two sisters Patricia Fauzey of Oil City and Roberta Sasso of Tom River NJ, three brothers Ed (Barb) Whitman of Rousville, Chuck Whitman of Titusville and Bill Whitman of Dothan, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife, Curley was preceded in death by his companion Edna Swartfager, his son, David Cessna Jr., two sisters, and their husbands Carol (Ron) Sheats and Sally (Clair) Wade and his brother in law James Fauzey.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc., 504 East Penn St., Knox.  Funeral Services will be held at 4 pm Saturday in the funeral home with friend of the family Pastor Chris Lewis of the Bethany Crossroads Church officiating.  Interment will take place Monday in Venus Cemetery. 

The Knox American Legion Post 720 will perform full military honors.

The family would like to thank the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for Curley and the rest of the family.

In lieu flowers the family request memorial donations are made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
