Harry L. Emrick

January 7, 1930 ~ March 4, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Harry L. Emrick, 87, of Elk City, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday March 4, 2017.

Born January 7, 1930 at home in Elk City he was the son of the late Alvin and Mabel (Exley) Emrick.

Harry attended Shippenville High School until enlisting in the US Navy in 1948.  Harry was a Boiler Tender on several Naval Ships.  He retired after 20 years of service and moved back home with the nickname “Sea Dog”.  Harry then went to work for Owens Brockway in the maintenance department until retiring after 24 years of service.

On October 6, 1956, Harry married Margaret (Peg) Collett, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. 

For many years Harry and Peg enjoyed a permanent camp site at Rustic Acres Campground.  Harry was known for his exterior camp lights and his welcoming campfires.  He looked forward to the weekly church services with the late Rev. Merwin Schwab and the late Rev. Richard Eddinger.

Harry attended the Providence, Manor and Shippenville U.M Churches until his health no longer permitted.

Upon declining health Harry spent time at rehabilitation at UPMC Seneca, Clarion Hospital and Clarview Nursing and Rehab. Center.  On October 4, 2015 he was able to come home and remain there until his passing due to his loving wife, wonderful caregivers and VNA Hospice.

Harry will be deeply missed by his wife, two daughters Patti (Rick) Braun of Shippenville and Lori (Randy) Brown of Sligo, three grandchildren Andrea (DJ) Benetti of Knox, Eric (Teri) Braun of Seminole and Curtis (Kayla) Brown of Huey; and four sisters Marabelle Rice of Franklin, Theatis Beary of Clarion, Darlene Stewart of Rimersburg and Karen (Ned) Craig of Shippenville.

Along with his parents Harry was preceded in death by an infant sister Julie Emrick, sisters Janet Myers and Phyllis Bish and brothers Charles (Chuck) Emrick and Neil (Pete) Emrick.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox.   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Carol Brown of the Manor United Methodist Church and Pastor Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain co officiating.  Interment will be held Thursday at the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

The Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post 720 of Knox will perform full military honors.
