James Leroy Sloat, 67 of Knox passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the UPMC Northwest Hospital in Seneca following an extended illness.  Born October 27, 1948 in Grove City, Jim was the son of Norman Sloat and Louise Smith.  On October 8, 1966 Jim married Shirley Shaffer who preceded him in death in 2009.  Jim was a member of the Grace E.C. Church.  He enjoyed playing cards and watching westerns.  Jim is survived by his three children James C. Sloat and his wife Sherri of Maryland, Michael W. Sloat and his wife Dana of Knox, and Shelly A. Sloat of Clarion; five grandchildren Jennifer Sloat of Maryland, Kyrsten Sloat of Maryland, Emma Sloat of Knox, Levi Sloat of Knox and Ella Sloat of Knox; and a great granddaughter Ariana Abdulaziz of Maryland.  Also surviving are a sister Cheryl Delo and her husband Craig and a brother in law Robert Harless.  Along with his wife and parents Jim was preceded in death by a brother Norman Sloat and a sister Nancy Harless.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Saturday at the Grace E.C. Church, 2561 Grace Church Road, Knox.
