Sandra Irene “Sandy” Dowlan, 74, died peacefully at her home in Shippenville on July 5, 2016.

She was born on February 5, 1942 in Olean New York. She was raised in Hill City near Cranberry, and attended Cranberry High School. She worked at Clarion University, where she was consistently recognized as an outstanding employee by colleagues and supervisors. She especially enjoyed summer picnics and cookouts with family, bonfires with her dearest neighbors, and music at local wineries with her closest friends.

Survivors include a sister, Alberta Maier and her husband Phil of Oil City, brother James Barrett of Jupiter, Florida, sisters-in law Donna Barrett of Cranberry and Margaret Barrett of Edinboro, Delorse Kean and husband Richard of Ashtabula, OH, three sons, Steve and his wife Dona, of Warren, Scott and his wife Sarah, and Erik and his wife Luanne, both in the Pine City area. Also surviving are grandchildren, Zachary and Megan Dowlan of Pine City, and Karissa Dowlan of Pittsburgh, and Nathan Beichner of Pine City, step-grandchildren James Arroway of State College, and Sean Mendoza of Vilas, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Barrett and mother, Pearl (Womer) Barrett of Cranberry, five sisters and six brothers.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, July 15 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home in Knox. A eulogy will be delivered at 05:30, followed by an opportunity for loved ones to share stories and reflect on her life. A private celebration of her life or family and close friends will be held in Clarion. Her ashes will be interred at Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.
