Bessie E. Amsler, 84, of the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Knox, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, after many years of declining health.
Born September 24, 1933, in Knox, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Nellie Wingard Sheesley.
Bessie was a 1952 graduate of Salem High School. She worked for Sylvania Electric Products in Brookville assembling radio tubes and later as a cashier for Jamesway.
On August 24, 1957 Bessie married Robert L. Amsler who preceded her in death in 1995.
Bessie enjoyed playing bingo, doing word search puzzles, and listening to music by the Gaithers.
Bessie is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Amsler of Roanoke, VA and Betty Jo Amsler of Winchester, VA; two brothers-in-law, Harry Harnish and Tom Amsler both of Knox; two sisters-in-law, Alma Jean Sheesley of Emlenton and Ellen Amsler of Elk City and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her two sisters, Sara Beals and Helen Harnish and four brothers, Harold Sheesley, Calvin (Pete) Sheesley, Melvin Sheesley and Harry (Hen) Sheesley.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Friday and from 10 to 11am Saturday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc. at 504 East Penn Avenue in Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Wade Barto of the Knox United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shippenville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Knox Public Library, 305 N. Main St, Knox or the Knox United Methodist Church, 9729 rt 338, Knox.
