Marjorie Ann (Smith) Hanst

July 31, 1929 ~ November 1, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Marjorie Ann Smith Hanst, 88 of Virginia Beach, formerly of Knox, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at her daughter’s home on November 1, 2017 surrounded by family.

Born July 31, 1929, in Venango County she was the daughter of Harold and Theodora (Stewart) Smith of Cranberry.

On November 11, 1947, Marjorie married Grant Hanst and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage together.

Her beloved husband Grant passed away on May 21, 2015, and she has missed him dearly.  Before her husband’s passing, they had enjoyed many family vacations, fun times around the family swimming pool, campfires and picnics with family and friends.

Marjorie’s hobbies included planting flowers, quilting, sewing, knitting and in the earlier years competitive square dancing.  She made beautiful quilts for each one of her children and grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by three children, Alynda J. (Richard) Meier of Virginia Beach, Cynthia K. (Thomas) Reed of Knox, and Beverly J. Hanst (Tom Schildkamp) of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Anissa (Alex) Knight, Benjamin (Jennifer) Meier, Todd Meier; Brooke (Mike) Poli, Corrie (Bobby) Timko, Luke (Kate) Reed and Abigail (Andrew) Mertz and 13 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers Samuel Smith of Seneca and James Smith of Marietta GA, and two sisters-in-law Betty Barger of St. Petersburg and Jean Hanst of Mars.

Along with her husband and parents Marjorie was preceded in death by two sisters June (Smith) Hogue and Ruth (Smith) Rinker.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 pm Sunday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday in the funeral home with Ben Meier and Mike Poli co officiating.  Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.

In lieu flowers the family request memorial donations are made to the Alzheimer Association, PO Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20090-6011 or online at Alz.org.
