Dale Myers Obituary

Dale Leroy Myers, 71, of Knox went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the UPMC Montefiore Hospital surrounded by his family after a period of declining health.

Born July 30, 1952, in Oil City, Dale was the son of Evelyn Rowe Myers and the late James Benton Myers.

Dale graduated from Keystone High School in 1970, the Clarion University in 1974 and University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1978.  Dale started his own private practice in August 1978 and worked 46 years as a dentist in Knox serving many members of the community.

On July 15, 1972, Dale married his high school sweetheart Barbara Dittman who he celebrated over 50 years of marriage with.

Dale was a longtime member of various dental associations and was the secretary of the 8th district dental society. In 2019 he received the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry’s prestigious Fellowship Award. He was also a former member of the Keystone School District school board.

Dale enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s many athletic events and activities. He also enjoyed the outdoors. He cultivated a large garden and loved spending time in the woods and on his tractor. He loved to swim and could regularly be found swimming laps or playing with his grandchildren in his pool. He enjoyed seafood and anything chocolate.

He was a lifelong person of faith and regularly encouraged his family to serve God and those around him. His faith was first nurtured at St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Knox. He then attended Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah. He sang in the choir and taught Sunday school within both congregations. He had a special interest in encouraging the youth of the community and served many years as a volunteer leader of the youth group at St. Paul’s and youth committee at Grace. He always looked for ways to encourage those around him to serve others. He loved the Bible and could frequently be found reading and studying Scripture.

Those who knew Dale will remember his cheerful personality and ready smile. Even as his health declined his joy and concern for others was inspiring to those around him.

Loved ones left to cherish Dale’s memory are his wife Barb Myers of Knox, his daughters Emily (Todd) Shumaker of Knox, Alison (Josh) Albright of Knox and Aimee (Charlie) Cotherman of Oil City; his grandchildren Tyler and Ashlee Albright of Knox, Lilly and Madalyn Shumaker of Knox, Elliana, Anneliese, Benton and Theo Cotherman of Oil City; a sister Cindy (Paul) Curran of Knox; a brother and sister in law Gary and Barb Dittman of Shippenville and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his father James Benton Myers and his mother and father in law Homer and Grace Dittman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox, and from 10 to 11 am Friday at the Grace EC Church, 2561 Grace Church Road, Knox.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday in the church with Pastor Charlie Cotherman of the Oil City Vineyard Church officiating.  Interment will follow at the St. Paul Union Cemetery in Knox
