David Fowler Obituary

David Henry Fowler was born on December 26, 1937, minutes before his identical twin brother Donald P. Fowler, in Reading, PA. The twins and their older brother, Richard, who were his lifelong best friends, were raised on the family farm in Danville, PA, by their parents Evan Paul Fowler and Mary Walker Jones Fowler.

On May 3, 1975 he married Betsy J. Firth, who survives. They spent a lifetime loving each other, always laughing and raising their family with happiness, kindness and joy. He also always maintained a good relationship with his first wife, Heather, with whom he continued to lovingly raise their children.

He believed the most important thing he would leave to this world was his family and he loved them well. They loved him in return with their whole hearts. In addition to his wife Betsy, he is survived by his greatest pride, his four children, Ingrid J. Gallagher (John), David Craig Fowler (Lynda), Sara M. Schager (Brian) and Bethany A. Pyda (Derek), his beloved grandchildren Erin, Kyle (Mariah), Maeve, Julia, Laura, Emma and Will and great-grandchildren David and Quentin.

He was a good man who always tried to do the right thing and helped raise four children with very simple guidelines: know right from wrong and choose the correct one, always be kind and find and follow your passion. He lived his whole life trying to help others and never missed a chance to tell his family he loved them. He was famously known by his children to say “They don’t know any better, but you do.” And when we asked him “What if I fail?” he replied, without missing a beat, “What if you don’t?”

He attended Penn State University and graduated in 1960 with a BS in Dairy Science and in 1962 with an MS in Animal Nutrition. His career as an Extension Agent for Penn State was a source of pride. After retiring in 1997, he spent his years working on baseball fields, including volunteering on the Little League World Series Grounds Crew. He was also a proud member of the Loyalsock Rod and Gun Club, which was his favorite place to spend summer weeks sitting in the pavilion surrounded by his family, and fall hunting seasons. He had many friends from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Knox, PA, where he was a devoted member for over 40 years and from his time as a member of the Knox Lion’s Club.

A private service to remember his life will be held at a later date. If you choose to remember his life, he asked that you perform an act of kindness to help those around you.
