Donald Spence Obituary

Donald Larry Spence, 71, of Limestone, Pennsylvania passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.

Born December 26th, 1952, in Oil City Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Carl Spence Sr. and Virginia Ehrhart Spence.

Donald was a graduate of Oil City High School. He also attended the former Clarion University obtaining a degree in Special Education.

He served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War and serving as an SP4 in the United States Army Reserve in the years following until his honorable discharge.

Donald was employed in the maintenance department at O-I for 30+ years until retiring due to their closure.

Donald enjoyed sharing his love of bowling with his daughter prior to being forced to “retire” from the sport but that did not stop him from still being active in the cheering section. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed being outside and would never let anyone else near his lawnmower when it came time to mow the grass. When football season came, he would always be found in his recliner ready to cheer on his beloved Steelers football team and could be heard for miles with every good and bad play. But none of the above could replace the amount of love and excitement he had for spoiling and spending every minute he could with his grandson.

Don is survived a daughter, Ashley Buzard and her family of Limestone and a grandson Ryker.

He was preceded in death by sisters Caroline Garlick, Jeannette Masiker, Mary Brooks and Evelyn Kline and by his brothers Clarence “Butch” Spence and Daniel Spence, a half-brother Carl Spence Jr. and a half sister Beverly Dilley.

The family will received friends from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox.  A prayer service will be held at 7 PM Monday in the funeral home.

Military Honors will be performed at the Limestone Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the Knox Area Ambulance Co., PO Box 636, Knox PA 16232 or the Lutheran Senior Life VNA, 154 Hindman Road, Butler PA 16001.
