Joyce Irene “Sis” Schettler, 86, formerly of Knox, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health on July 21, 2026, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor, Brookville, PA.

Joyce was born in Knox, Pennsylvania, on August 20, 1939, the eldest daughter of the late Leo Robert and Oma Arbutus (Jordan) Schettler. Raised Protestant and educated at Keystone High School in Knox, she graduated in 1957.

After graduation, Joyce worked at Knox Glass, Inc. until 1966, then moved to New York City for a secretarial role at Freeport Minerals Company in Export Transportation. In 1977, she transferred to the Tax Department, staying until 1985. She then joined Drexel Burnham Lambert on Wall Street, serving the Tax Director and Corporate Tax Counsel. After Drexel’s bankruptcy in 1990, she worked in a similar role at PaineWebber in Midtown Manhattan until her retirement in spring 2004.

In NYC, Joyce delighted in attending operas, concerts, museums, and walking tours. She also enjoyed visiting her siblings for joyful trips of life’s celebrations.  She loved antiquing and flower gardens, preparing Easter eggs, and attending hometown parades. She also stayed in touch by sending cards and sharing newspaper clippings.

Upon her return to Knox in May 2004, she resumed her many hobbies. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed mysteries and biographies.  She also enjoyed knitting, needlework, and tending her flower gardens. A devoted lover of nature and animals, Joyce almost always shared her home with a beloved cat. She found joy in simple pleasures, especially walking after a fresh snowfall and sitting quietly on her front porch listening to the rain.

In her younger years, she was an enthusiastic bowler and belonged to several bowling leagues.  She also took piano and baton lessons in her youth.

Preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Robert, Richard (who was killed while serving in the Korean War), Theodore, and her sister Dorothy Silverberg and her husband, Carl.

She is survived by her brother Robert’s surviving wife, Shirley; her brother James of Knox; her sisters, Patricia Organsky of Plymouth Meeting, Virginia Edwards of Knox, and Barbara Stroul and her husband, Elliott, of Lake Ariel, PA. Joyce is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews all of whom she cared about deeply.

In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or funeral service. The family will plan a time of remembrance at a later date; details forthcoming.

Arrangements are under the care of McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, with interment at Knox Union Cemetery.
