Loretta Mae Wedekind

Loretta Mae Wedekind passed from this life in the early morning hours of July 28th, 2025.

Loretta was born on January 28th, 1928 in the town of Distant, PA. to Russell & Catherine George. Sadly, when she was just six months old, her Mother passed away. She was then raised by her Grandparents & also remained close with her Father & siblings. 

Loretta graduated from New Bethlehem High School in 1948. She later went on to marry John W. Wedekind on July 30th, 1955 at The Church of God, in Distant, PA. They resided at the family homestead in Shippenville together. 

Loretta was a homemaker & a “homebody” at heart, & her husband, a farmer & Veteran. They had one child together, a Son, Terry Wedekind. He preceded them in death in 1993. 

Loretta loved visiting with family & friends, and going out to different restaurants to eat. 

Loretta had many caregivers in the years following her husbands passing. Among them were members of the Rex family, Esther Weaver, Donna Hartzell, Fran Beary, and the Goughler family. 

Loretta made her home with them & will be dearly missed by all of them. 

We thank all caregivers, as well as the entire staff of Clarion Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Clarion, PA. She received excellent care there in her later years. 

Loretta was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son, & also her Brothers Ken, Lyn & Carl George. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Chewning. 

She is survived by her niece Linda (Michael) Burkhardt of New York, a nephew Don George, & several great nieces & nephews. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice, if one so wishes. 

Viewing will be from 11am-1pm on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025. A funeral service will follow at 1pm at McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home in Knox, PA.

Interment will follow at the Wedekind Cemetery.
