M. Lavern “Butch” Mattern, 70, of Knox, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Born March 4, 1954, in Oil City, Butch was the son of the late M. Lavern and G. Maxine Rhoads Mattern.
Butch graduated from Keystone High School, then continued his education at Pittsburgh Electronic Institute. He worked for Joy Manufacturing in Electrical Maintenance; and Multi-Tech Communications and Computer Products in computer support.
On September 7, 1973 Butch married E. Luann Howard who survives.
Butch enjoyed planting trees; wood working; serving his church family; coaching and mentoring; giving golf kart rides; hunting: fishing; working with his father; attending grandchildren’s games, recitals, ceremonies, and parties; being an avid Pirates and Steelers fan; being outdoors; camping and scouting.
Along with his wife Butch is survived by his children Jennifer (Samuel) Johnson of Knox, Hope (Justin) Mays of Knox and Clinton (Jessica) Mattern of Knox; his grandchildren Reagan Mays, Landon Johnson, Saydee Mays, Carmondy Johnson, Allyson Mattern, Justin Mays II and Cameron Mattern all of Knox. Also surviving are Butch’s siblings Fred (Melinda) Mattern of Daleville, VA, Pat (Steve) Neely of Emlenton, Marie Teeters of Knox, Brenda (Larry) Evans of Edinboro and several nieces and nephews.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, a child Baby Mattern and a brother in law Art Teeters.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave., Knox.
A memorial service for Butch will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Salem Lutheran Church, 2057 PA-208, Lamartine, PA, with Pastor Doug Dyson officiating.
