Margaret Butler Boorech, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully at home on December 22nd after a long and courageous battle with illness, at the age of 76, in Knox, Pennsylvania. She was born February 17th, 1948, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Robert and Miriam Butler. Margaret was also predeceased by her brother Michael Butler.
Margaret is survived by her extremely loving and devoted husband, Gerald Boorech of Shippenville, PA. She is also survived by siblings Debbie Blackburn, David Butler, Donald Butler, Steve Butler, and Ben Butler, all of whom were a constant source of support and love throughout her life. She will also be deeply missed by her children: Rachel and Leroy Battles, Sam Wynkoop and Sandra Schmidt, Dan and Heather Wynkoop, and stepchildren Allison Bell and Tom Shanafelt, who cherished her as an exceptionally caring and devoted mother. Maggie’s loving legacy will continue through her wonderful grandchildren: Grace, Scanlon, Rebekah, Chase, Lillianna, Benjamin, Hunter, Isabella, and Darren.
A proud graduate of Elk County Christian High School, Margaret continued her academic journey at Clarion Teachers College, now Clarion University, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career as a speech and language therapist for Intermediate Unit #6 in the AC Valley, Union, and Forest Area schools. She touched the lives of countless students with her dedication, kindness, heart, and unwavering support. Margaret was known for her ability to inspire confidence and open doors of opportunity for those she worked with, earning the admiration and affection of everyone she encountered.
Margaret's life was one of service, compassion, and love, and she will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love for family, and her deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. In her memory, the lessons she imparted as an educator will live on in the hearts of her students, families, and colleagues.
A very special memorial service will be held at a later date for us all to remember, love, and share the very special life of Maggie Boorech. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics in her memory.
She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, learning, and dedication will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
