Mary Vickers Obituary

Mary Ellen Hepler Vickers, 88, of Knox died Thursday July 10, 2025 at Shippenville Health Care. 

Born on December 12, 1936, in Mechanicsville to the late John and Gladys (Amsler) Hepler.

Mary married Ronald Eugene Vickers on February 4, 1955, who proceeded her in Death on March 7, 1982.  Together they had five children:  John (Pam) Vickers of Polk, Tim Vickers (Sherry Frankenberger) of Franklin, Lynn Fulton of Shippenville, Kathy (Gary) Swartzfager and Bill Vickers of Knox.  Mary had 9 grandchildren: Adam, Chris (Sarah), Angie (Daryl), Jessica (Brett), Kayla (Vinnie), Kasey (Jeremy), Rori, Tanner and Mattie; 8 great grandchildren Sebastian (Brook), Quinton (Kamyron), Tegan, Jonathon, Alivia, Lydia, Ethan & Elisabeth; a Brother in-law Larry Slater and Sister in-law Carol Hepler; Niece Ann (Bill), Nephew David (Shannon) and great Niece Lacey (Amanda).

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, and husband as well as her daughter Kathy, Sister Donna Slater, Brother Chuck Hepler and Nephew Jody Slater.

Over the years, Mary was integral in the operation of Vickers Greenhouse and later Vickers Florist.  She loved collecting salt and pepper shakers and lighthouses; spending time with family and friends and you could often find her reading a book or visiting on the phone.  All throughout her life she journaled, keeping books of thoughts, weather and current events.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shippenville Healthcare for their care, love, and compassion during her residency there.

Please join the family to celebrate Mary’s life from 3pm to 5pm on Monday July 14, at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave. Knox.  Funeral service will follow at 5pm in the funeral home with Pastor Ken Tack of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Knox, officiating.

Internment will take place at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City, PA.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
