Richard (Rick) A. Wilshire (lovingly known as Old Pal by those close to him) of Knox, born August 28, 1948, in Brookville, PA went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health.
He was the son of the late Harold “Mike” (Ruth) Wilshire of Summerville, PA and the late Julie Wilshire of Clarion, PA. He graduated from Clarion Limestone High School in 1967. Rick enlisted in the Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War and served in Germany for 3 years as a Tank Commander in the 3rd Armore Division. After that he enlisted in the Army Reserves where he served with the 298th Transportation Company in Franklin, PA. He was deployed to serve in The Gulf War and retired a Staff Sergeant after over 22 years of service. He worked at the Knox Glassplant from 1970 until it closed and then went on to work at Colony Homes until he retired in 2010.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Wilshire, sons Scott (Jess) Wilshire and Joe (Jen) Wilshire, and his granddaughters Morgan Wilshire and Caitlin and Ava Parris. Rick is also survived by his brothers Roy (Vicki) Bartlett, Jim (Kathleen) Wilshire, and Terry (Joyce) Wilshire, and half siblings Michael (Barb) Wilshire and Christina (Jerry) Burt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Wilshire and half sister Suzanne Ricey.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and especially enjoyed his trips to his family’s camp Ginger Whiskey in Medix Run, PA. He loved spending time with his family and pets. He adored his granddaughters and loved being a Grampy. He was a long standing member of Grace E.C. Church in Nineveh.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 PM on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave., Knox. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held in the funeral home at 5 PM with Pastors John Friedlund and Phil Thomas cofficiating.
