Vera K. Thompson, 84, of Knox, known lovingly as Kay, passed into eternity on March 27, 2026.
She was born in Big Run on March 18, 1942. The eldest daughter of the late Anna (Smith) Becker and Clifford Becker.
On June 17, 1960 she married her childhood sweetheart, James L. Thompson. Together they raised five children.
As her family grew, Kay followed her calling into nursing, serving her community for more than 40 years at Franklin Hospital, through Clarion VNA, and in private-duty care, offering comfort, skill, and kindness to the many she served throughout her career.
She enjoyed her hobbies of quilting, crochet, caring for her animals and spending time in her flower garden.
She always enjoyed time spent with her family and she loved to travel as well.
She is loved and missed by her sons: James (Denise) Thompson, Daniel Thompson, daughters: Kathleen (Mike) Mealy, Lisa (Tim) Perry, a sister, Marcella Hodgson as well as 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Vera was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim, a daughter Kristina Siple, a grandson, Jared Mealy, two great grandchildren, Bailee Bell and Nadalyn Thompson and a sister, Joyce Gaston.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2026 and from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave., Knox, Funeral services will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home with Associate Pastor Tom Hannold of the Turkey City Church of God officiating. Interment will take place at Lake Lawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.
