I loved Marlene! Never knew her as Charlotte. When we lived in Knox she would walk over to pick me up and we would stroll up and around Rheas road and back to my house. Our dog Sooty would then walk Marlene back to her home, and she would call to say she was safe and Sooty was on her way home.
Marlene was loving, kind, lots of fun. Everything a friend should be.
Heaven is a happier place with her in it.

Message from Danielle Kohut - Alzheimer's Unit Director

There's a few rules of thumb when working in healthcare. One of them being "don't play favorites". Well, I broke that rule when I met dear Charlotte. I remember the first time I met her, she was sitting in the dining area wearing a little pink sweater. From sitting beside her during every meal to sneaking her a piece of chocolate when nobody was watching, I would go to any length to make her smile. She was my dear friend for the many years that she resided on the Alzheimer's Unit. I knew the day would come when she would leave the unit and be transferred to the "regular floor", and I braced myself. When that day came, I remember watching from afar as she exited through the double doors, with my eyes welling up with tears. Though she was transferred off the unit, I still visited with her every single day; each moment was precious. The past few weeks were difficult; her sweet smile faded...she was weak...and the sparkle in her eye was all but lost. Though our dear friend is gone, she is now dancing with the angles. And best of all, her smile is back...she is no longer suffering...and she's got that sparkle back in her eye. I know that my dear friend, Charlotte, was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and I know that I will see her again. That is comforting. I sure hope there's chocolate in heaven!

There's so much more that I could say. I could write for days about the goodness of my dear friend. but my eyes have welled up with tears once again. Coming to work is just a little bit different now...there's definitely something missing. Though I miss my friend dearly, I am thankful for the time I got to spend with her. Until I see her again, I will hang on to the memories...and the little pink sweater that now keeps me warm.
