William Edwin “ED” Ausel, 93, of Knox passed away at his home Friday morning March 17, 2017.

Born July 16, 1923 in Knox, Ed was the son of John M. and Edna R. Ekis Ausel.

On September 23, 1955, Ed married Jean Ritts whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage with.

He attended the Attleberger Grade School and graduated in 1941 from the White Memorial High School in Knox.  Ed spent his childhood on the family farm in Knox where he helped take care of the cows, the crops and other farm chores.  While in high school he worked for the Beaty Hardware, The News Stand and was a pin setter at the bowling alley.  After high school he worked as a machinist for Oil Well Supply in Oil City until going into the United States Army in 1942.  While in the Army he spent over two years in England and France.  Ed arrived on the Beach of Normandy about a week after the invasion and was finally stationed in Rheims France when Germany surrendered.  While in the Army he received the Good Conduct Medal, the Rifleman Medal, three Bronze Stars, the Victory Medal and the rank of Tech Sergeant.  After being discharged from the Army, Ed worked at the Clarion County Farm Bureau in Knox where he eventually became the manager.  He then worked for North Penn Gas Company which he retired from in 1985.

Ed was a life member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Knox where he was an organist for 30 years.

Ed was a member of the Edenburg Masonic Lodge #550 in Knox, the Coudersport Consistory and the Oil City Lodge of Perfection

Ed will be deeply missed by his wife, a son Jeff Ausel and his wife Darla of Cranberry, two grandchildren Allyson Pearce and her husband Brandon of Lynchburg VA and Rebecca Ausel of Cranberry, and numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law.

Along with his parents Ed was preceded in death by his son Gregory Ausel, a brother John C. Ausel, sisters Margery Bigley and Dorothy Ausel and several brothers and sisters in law.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Sunday and 10 to 11 AM Monday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home 504 East Penn Ave., Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Ken Tack officiating.  Interment will take place at the St. Paul Union Cemetery in Knox.

The Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post 720 of Knox will perform full military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, P.O. 271, Perkins Road or Charitable Deeds & Services, 94 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox PA 16232.
